Fountain Inn Fire Department Receives 52 Pet Oxygen Kits to Help Save Animal Lives Across Greenville County

FOUNTAIN INN, SC - On April 28, the Fountain Inn Fire Department received 52 pet oxygen kits through a collaborative effort with the Greenville County Fire Chiefs Association. These kits, provided by the Pet Oxygen Kit Project, Inc., are part of a countywide initiative to equip first-out fire apparatus with pet oxygen masks—ensuring more animals can be saved during house fires. The Fountain Inn Fire Department will distribute the kits to fire departments throughout Greenville County to support this mission.

With this latest delivery, the Pet Oxygen Kit Project, Inc. has now distributed a total of 1,002 kits across South Carolina.

The Pet Oxygen Kit Project, Inc. is a volunteer-driven educational and public safety effort dedicated to providing fire departments with the equipment needed to resuscitate pets affected by smoke inhalation or toxic fumes during structure fires.

“Losing a pet in a house fire is truly heartbreaking,” said Fire Chief Russell Alexander. “While rescue alert decals can assist us, they don’t guarantee a pet’s safety. Animals often hide when they’re scared, especially during a fire, which makes them harder to locate. These pet oxygen kits give our firefighters the tools they need to not only find but also revive pets exposed to smoke and toxic fumes—we now have a much better chance of saving them.”

Each Pet Oxygen Kit includes:
  • Three oxygen masks (small, medium, and large)
  • Three oxygen air tubes (22 mm diameter)
  • A carry bag for storage and mobility
  • A laminated instruction sheet with CPR guidance for cats and dogs
  • A kennel lead for safe animal restraint
  • Two animal incident report forms (carbonless, 3-part)
  • A digital pet rescue notice
  • A PowerPoint presentation (digital format)
  • Two “Pet Oxygen Masks On Board” decals
  • An instructional DVD titled “Pets Need Oxygen Too”
These masks can be used on a wide range of animals, including dogs, cats, rabbits, ferrets, guinea pigs, and birds.

The City of Fountain Inn is proud to play a leading role in this initiative and remains committed to supporting the safety of both people and pets across Greenville County.
