Activities Center Coordinator

Salary Range: $18.83 To $21.72 Hourly

Purpose of Classification:

The purpose of this classification is to implement assigned programs, activities, and services for seniors and recreation programs in the City. The Activities Center Coordinator will serve as a primary point of contact and operational hub for the Activities Center. This role balances front-line customer service, administrative coordination, and hands-on execution of recreational, social, and senior programs. The ideal candidate ensures seamless communication between city departments, staff, and the public while directly assisting with engaging events for senior participants.

Essential Functions:

Reports to Activities Center Supervisor

Implements activities and events for senior (55+) members under the direction of the Activities Supervisor. Coordinates, conducts, and leads recreational and social activities and events for participants of different fitness/cognitive levels; coordinates facilitators and volunteers for activities and events; gathers supplies and equipment; provides skill demonstrations as needed; arranges and organizes physical space, transportation and other details; contacts various venues to schedule activities; and researches activities desired and requested by participants.

Assists in the planning and of activities and events: researches and develops content, menus, and other items for senior activities and public events; creates handouts and informational supplements; coordinates internship program, schedules educational activities and events; sets up for and cleans up after activities and events, including food preparation, decorating, setting up and tearing down tables and chairs, etc. 

Provides customer service to senior citizens and the public: receives and responds to questions and requests for information; provides assistance and information related to center programs, services, materials, or other issues; researches problems and initiates problem resolution; and enrolls clients for activities and events.

Provides administrative support to recreation staff, including scheduling, meeting coordination, field rentals, and assisting with onboarding/training related to customer service protocols. 

Coordinates with City Community Relations personnel for the maintenance and publishing of social media posts and other related communications for branding and content compliance. Maintains and updates email/mailing distribution lists. 

Performs other duties to support center operations: completes, prepares and submits reports and forms on center activities; utilizes petty cash fund; performs routine cleaning duties such as emptying trash, sweeping floors, cleaning restrooms, etc.; puts up seasonal and holiday decorations; and maintains inventory of equipment and supplies. 

Processes a variety of documentation associated with department/division operations, within designated timeframes and per established procedures: receives and reviews various documentation; reviews, completes, processes, forwards or retains as appropriate; prepares or completes various forms, reports, correspondence, and other documentation; compiles data for further processing or for use in preparation of department reports; and maintains computerized and/or hardcopy records.

Communicates with supervisor, other City employees, facilitators, volunteers, community groups, nursing homes, the public, and other individuals as needed to coordinate work activities, review status of work, exchange information, or resolve problems.

Additional Functions: Performs other related duties as required.

Minimum Qualifications: High school diploma or GED required; supplemented by one year of experience in customer service, senior program implementation or related field; or any equivalent combination of education, training, and experience which provides the requisite knowledge, skills, and abilities for this job. 

Specific License or Certification Required: Must possess and maintain a valid South Carolina driver’s license. Must possess and maintain the following additional certifications or licensures: Cardiopulmonary Resuscitation (CPR).

Specific Knowledge, Skills, or Abilities: Must be able to demonstrate proficiency in performance of the essential functions and learn, comprehend, and apply all City or departmental policies, practices, and procedures necessary to function effectively in the position.
